We are happy to announce Whitney Lynn as the WoolooPick of February 2011! Whitney got the majority of the public votes from WOOLOO.ORG users and visitors. Whitney Lynn is a multimedia artist who explores ideas of containment and the messy intersections between political, military, and civilian cultures. Whitney lives and works in San Francisco.
Wooloo spoke to Whitney about her work:
- How would you describe your artistic practice?
Although the physical structure of each project varies – installation, sculpture, photography, drawings, performance, video - I am interested in exploring aspects of containment, control, boundaries and messy intersections. Formally driving the work are sculptural issues of material, space, and the relationship to the body.
- Can you give us an example of a work of yours that you are especially happy with?
I'm always most excited about the piece that's coming up next.
- What inspires you to create your work?
The desire to get something out of my head and into physical space.
- Has the internet had an effect on your practice as an artist? And if yes, in what way?
Less slides, more emails.
- How long have you been using WOOLOO.ORG and why do you find I useful?
Five years? Great to have a platform to show new work/exhibitions.
