WOOLOOPICK OF OCTOBER

We are happy to annouce that Igor Toshevski has been voted WoolooPick of October by the WOOLOO.ORG community and our many viewers.

Igor was born in 1963 in Skopje, ex-Yugoslavia, where he began his artistic career as a creator of comics for magazines in the late 1970's.

Throughout the 1980's, Igor was an active member of several local art groups in what would become the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonian, including the Zero group. It was as a member of Zero, that he made his first object paintings.

Meanwhile, he moved to Finland to study and graduated in printmaking from the Kuvataide Academy in Helsinki in 1988.

After his graduation, the focus of Igor's art became more political, as well as diverse in its use of different mediums from prints to film. A good example of his practice, is a work such as “Perfect Balance (30 kilograms of human rights)” from a 2000 group show i Skopje curated by S. Milevska.

“Perfect Balance (30 kilograms of human rights)” is an installation consisting of a
dozen scales and approximately 30 kilograms of documents retrieved from United Nations, Amnesty International and other human rights organizations dealing with victims of torture, missing people and minority reports.
