EXPLORING THE FIT

This week we present a brief interview with Dida Zende, initiator of the FIT-Freie Internationale Tankstelle project:


1. What is FIT?

A social sculpture based on the idea of taking over shut down gas stations worldwide and re open them to the public as a FILING STATION FOR THE CREATIVE SPIRIT.

Without the measurable evaluation of the usual art market FIT developes, thereby for - artists and non artists - , a forum for the presentation of independent creative principles: socially relevant art in an open operating field, freely of elitist thoughts and systems.

2. When and how did it start?

With renting an old gas station in Berlin Mitte in 2001 i became the opportunity, freely from the question of participation or refuse the art market, to take a third independent path.

3. Do you have a car? How is the subject of cars/personal transport involved with the FIT project?

The Stations are monuments of exhausted natural resources. They are transformed by the imagination of those who gather, in the spirit of collaboration, to produce a new fuel for humanity.

To tap into an inexhaustable resource; the life force of human creativity.

4. Give us an example of an old filling station that has been put to new use. Or your perfect vision hereof?

At the moment FIT runs Stations in Berlin and in Copenhagen. Our Vision is a world wide network of FILING STATION FOR THE CREATIVE SPIRIT, run by the people.
